Don’t forget “the plan” in planning your family get-together or reunion. Write out a daily itinerary in advance and email it to the group. Be sure to allow for family alone time and down time for everyone. Ask ahead if anyone has special interests, like playing tennis or going boating.

A simple one-day plan may be breakfast at the house from 8:30 to 9:30; beach or other family activity from 10 to noon; lunch 12:30 to 1:30 at a certain restaurant or back at the house. Free time until drinks for the adults at 5:00, dinner at 6:30. After dinner, cards for the adults and a rented movie for the kids! It’s pretty easy and you will find that everyone actually spends more and better time together as a result!

Details for organizing with as little stress as possible, and what to do with the people who will just never be satisfied, is included in my upcoming book.
